A community builder by trade and an activator by intuition.

As Development Manager of the U.S.-Japan Council, Miki has found the position that combines both her love and passion for cross-cultural building between her two home countries, the U.S. and Japan, and also her professional conviction to materialize true impact by ensuring financial security and sustainability between the organization and it’s loyal sponsors and donors.

Previously, as the Associate Director of Development, Miki served in a strategic fundraising role for innovative, entrepreneurial, educational programs at Lehigh University (in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania). In her previous career, she was based in Chicago, IL where she managed sustainability projects for certifying green buildings in commercial real estate. Having founded two non-profits, the San Diego Association of Eco Clubs in 2007 and the Generation Green Project in 2015, she is a serial innovator, connector, and community organizer. Miki was recognized by the Chicago Scholars Foundation as one of the “35 Under 35” young professionals impacting the Chicagoland community. Originally from California and going to Japan to see her family often, she enjoys celebrating Japanese culture in the U.S. She has been a member of the US-Japan Council Emerging Leaders Program since joining the class of 2015. She organized a group called the Lehigh Valley - JAJAJA to build a community of Japanese in America, Japanese Americans, and Japanese Aficionados in the eastern Pennsylvania region. Miki’s top five Clifton Strengths are: Achiever, Activator, Input, Learner, and Strategic. She received her B.A. in Political Economy and Conservation Resources from the University of California, Berkeley. She enjoys challenging herself by cooking different kinds of food, and her steady rotation of Japanese food like okonomiyaki, natto, unagi, and tonkotsu ramen can be witnessed on her social media platforms.
